After finishing an undergraduate degree in nutrition at Texas A&M University, Dr. Misti Ellsworth earned her medical degree at the University of North Texas Health Science Center College of Osteopathic Medicine in Fort Worth. She completed a residency in pediatrics at UT Health San Antonio Long School of Medicine, followed by a fellowship in pediatric infectious diseases at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston.

Dr. Ellsworth is board certified in both pediatrics and pediatric infectious diseases. Her primary interests are infection prevention, quality improvement and mentorship.

An assistant professor of pediatrics at McGovern Medical School, Dr. Ellsworth enjoys being a mentor to medical students, residents and fellows. She also serves as medical director for infection prevention and quality improvement at Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital. As medical director, she collaborates with nurses, physicians and other health care workers to create processes to prevent infections and develop responses to new infectious challenges such as COVID-19.

Dr. Ellsworth sees the practice of pediatric infectious diseases as solving a puzzle. Patients provide clues through symptoms and physical exam findings; the physician’s job is to put those pieces together to produce a diagnosis. She believes nothing is more rewarding than to develop a diagnosis and treatment plan that helps each patient feel better.

The mother of three children, Dr. Ellsworth enjoys reading murder mystery novels, trying new foods prepared by anyone other than her, travel and hanging out with family and friends.
