Physician Biography

Dr. Andrew Burgess earned his undergraduate degree at Hanover College in Indiana and his medical degree at Albany Medical College in New York, where he also did his residency. He completed a fellowship in orthopedic trauma at the University of Maryland Medical System- Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services in Baltimore.

In practice since 1975, Dr. Burgess is board certified in orthopedic surgery. He specializes in orthopedic trauma with an emphasis on the management of complex orthopedic injuries, limb reconstruction, and pelvis and lower extremity fractures and dislocations.

Dr. Burgess is a professor of orthopedic surgery at McGovern Medical School at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth), where he serves as vice chairman of orthopedic surgery and chief of orthopedic trauma. He has been actively involved in the education and training of future trauma surgeons, holding teaching positions at Johns Hopkins University and Pennsylvania State College of Medicine before joining the faculty at McGovern Medical School. He is a member of the International Congress for Joint Reconstruction.
