Physician Biography

Dr. William Banks, a Houston native who grew up in a family of attorneys, decided at an early age that medicine, not law, was his calling. He graduated from The University of Texas at Austin and The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, followed by a one-year rotating internship at Ohio State University. After two years in the U.S. Navy as a ship-board medical officer, he returned to Ohio State for a three-year residency in ophthalmology.

Board certified in ophthalmology, Dr. Banks has practiced in Houston for more than three decades. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgery and a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He has been an instructor for Baylor ophthalmology residents at Ben Taub Hospital and has served as president of the Houston Ophthalmology Society.

Dr. Banks is married and has two children. His hobbies include hunting, fishing, golf and gardening. He has donated his time for surgical trips to Latin America sponsored by Benevolent Missions International, a non-profit that provides ophthalmic care to the underserved in many areas around the world. He also serves on the organization’s board.
