Physician Biography

Eric Paul Kleinbaum, MD, completed his first year of medical courses at the Sackler Faculty of Medicine in Tel Aviv, Israel, before finishing his studies and earning his medical degree from Sidney Kimmel Medical College, formally known as Jefferson Medical School, in Philadelphia. He then moved to Houston, and completed an internal medicine residency, an internal medicine fellowship, and a hematology and medical oncology fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine.

During his final fellowship, Dr. Kleinbaum actively participated and managed different oncological and hematological disorder studies. He enrolled patients in a clinical trial for hepatocellular carcinoma and worked with patients enrolled in breast oncology clinical trials. He also worked with many national experts in the fields of breast oncology, stem cell transplantation, myeloproliferative disorders and benign hematology. In addition, Dr. Kleinbaum was afforded the opportunity to complete elective rotations at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in sarcoma, genitourinary oncology and gastroenterological oncology. As chief fellow, he participated in the development of the academic curricula for the fellowship program.

Board certified in internal medicine, medical oncology and hematology, Dr. Kleinbaum treats all types of tumors and specializes in breast, gastrointestinal (GI) and lung tumors and cancers. He has a special interest in gastrointestinal malignancies and gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST). He contributed a chapter in a published surgical oncology textbook describing a family with hereditary GIST syndrome and made the first set of screening recommendations for members of families affected with this cancer.

Dr. Kleinbaum values the trust that his patients place in his care. He deeply respects his patients’ ability to make informed decisions about their treatments. He is a member of the American College of Physicians (ACP), the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and the American Society of Hematology (ASH).
