Dr. Kenneth Gould received his undergraduate degree in physics from Oberlin College and Conservatory in Oberlin, Ohio, and earned his medical degree from Case Western Reserve Medical School in Cleveland, Ohio. Dr. Gould then moved to Hawaii for two years and served in the Epidemic Intelligence Service where he researched leprosy and measles in South Pacific island populations. He completed his cardiology residency and fellowship at the University of Washington School of Medicine in Seattle, Washington, during which he trained under Dr. Robert Bruce, the developer of the treadmill test.
