Dr. John Cole Cowling earned his medical degree from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Lubbock, Texas and completed his internship and residency in general surgery at McGovern Medical School at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth). He completed a fellowship in minimally invasive, robotic and bariatric surgery, also at UTHealth.  

Board certified by the American Board of Surgery and a member of the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, Dr. Cowling specializes in bariatric surgery, minimally invasive general surgery and robotic surgery.  He offers minimally invasive laparoscopic, robotic, and endoscopic approaches to address the patient's surgical problems, including surgical weight loss, treatment of gastroesophageal reflux, abdominal wall hernia repair and gastrointestinal surgery.  He is committed to listening to each patient's specific problems, so that he can offer each one a personalized treatment.

Dr. Cowling is an Assistant Professor of Surgery at McGovern Medical School.
